(short)
Growing up without a mother, nine-year-old Brook dreams of having a twin, and she thinks she's found one in her cousin Bernadette.
She mimics her while they play, tries to learn the family's prayers, and lists all the ways they're alike during a sleepover. But when they realize there's one big difference between them - Bernadette's cleft palate scar - Brook sets out to equalize things.
Shot using a hand held HDV camera, this short utilizes an improvisational, cinema verite approach with non-professional actors. From the stark Wisconsin landscape to the genuine performances from the young cast, this short captures the irrepressible longing of being young and trapped in the middle of a Midwestern winter.
